Two years before planting cherries, it is advisable to sow perennial legumes as a precursor crop because they have the ability to bind atmospheric nitrogen and enrich the soil with it. After fertilization, proceed to deep plowing at a depth of 60 – 100 cm, depending on the looseness and depth of the soil. Deep plowing is done two months before planting. Afterward, the soil is harrowed, and the spots for planting cherries are marked.
Among several possible rootstocks for cherries: generative – wild cherry seedling (Prunus avium) and mahaleb cherry seedling (Prunus mahaleb) or vegetative – Gisela, F12/1, and Colt.
